Happy New Year!

9 January 2008 322 views No Comment

Another year is upon us, and of course, I have all kinds of thoughts about what I want to improve on this year – especially in regard to mothering. In fact, I can think of a whole list of things quite easily:

  • get the girls’ evening routine more streamlined (read: get them to bed sooner!)
  • volunteer in the girls’ classrooms more often
  • show more patience when they are bickering with one another

I could go on, but I get overwhelmed just thinking about all I COULD do. Which brings me to my next point – improving your parenting is a great goal, but there’s so much more to it than that. What if you started with where you are now and what is actually working? Seriously. By taking stock of what’s going well first, you will:

  1. start to feel positive and hopeful about your life
  2. increase your energy level so you CAN reach your goals
  3. tap into a rich goldmine of possible answers and solutions for what you’d like to change–what you’ve done before has used your talents, strengths and interests, and can be used again!

I’m all for goal-setting – as a parent coach and as a mother. But I say we start with what’s working now. We’ll be much more motivated to grow and move forward when we come from a place of feeling good about all we have accomplished. What have you done WELL this past year? Answering this question will rock your world and help you feel better as a mom.
